Franco´s dictatorship stages

FIRST YEARS

The first years were very hard. There was a harsh repression against people who had supported the Republic.
Spain was internationally isolated. Many countries broke off diplomatic and commercial relations with Spain.
There was an economic crisis. The war had destroyed many infrastructures and industries.
People did not have easy access to food and other basic products,

CHANGES

From 1950s Spain started to become accepted internationally.
The economic started to improve: industrial production increased, agriculture was modernized, Tourism arrived...
The standard of living in Spain improved.
But there was not still democracy. The population was controlled, and people against the regime were arrested.

THE END

Since 1970 the opposition to the Franco regime was escalated.
Labour unions started to organiza underground.
Students demanded a democratic form of government.
The dictatorship ended in 1975, when Franco died, and a new era in democracy started.
